Opinion: Why Does Everyone Want To Be The Wii?
I think everyone knows what I’m talking about here. Why does Microsoft feel a need to release a motion sensitive controller, and now avatars?!?!
The Wii is fine in its own right even though I happen to find it gimmicky, but instead of sticking to what makes the Xbox brand so great, aka catering to the hardcore gamers with deep games, we now have a flood of gimmick games designed for people who never play.

Now thats not to say it isn’t all fine and dandy to get people who haven’t been into gaming into it now, but seriously now do you really think the Halo, Gears of War, Oblivion, and Mass Effect type gamers are going to be drawn to this stuff? And the casuals, what do you think they’re going to do? Will they get the Nintendo Wii, aka the thing the media and tv shows have been cramming down everyone’s throat as the best thing ever, or will they get a Xbox 360 that all they know about it is that it has Halo and Madden?
To sum it up I think Microsoft while its all dandy to get some casual games here and there needs to concentrate on more gamers for ‘gamers’, look at what you’ve done so far Microsoft, you have the highest software attach rate, why do you want to become the console that has the lowest software attach rate?

I completely agree. I think Microsoft’s new casual friendly direction for the marketplace is a horrible idea. It looks like ass from what I have seen And it is almost certain to be clunky as hell. There damn well better be a classic interface option or they will face the wraith of a whole lot of mad rabid monkeys.
the xbox 360 is not trying to be the wii! for starts the xbox 360 is overall rated better than the wii in majority of the catagories, the wii only truly dominates in the wii sales which i think it is +20million. Microsoft is not copying the wii by adding avatars! Why does everyone think the Ninendo Wii is the first to invent avatars?! Wii just used the avatar concept and turned it into a cute version. Microsoft is just playing the buisness game, they know so many people love Nintendos Mii’s but they decidied what if they could use the avatar concept but make it better and thats what they are doing, with thousands of differant varients and clothing they are truely going to show what real avatars are like. Microsoft knows they are better than the nintendo wii overall and microsoft knows that miis play a huge part for nintendo so since microsoft owns the software and gaming section why not go in and hit the wii with a better avatar system. Lastly if your going to say that a system is copying another system why not talk about sony and how they created branches of achievements for games which users of the xbox 360 find really addictive (ME =D) and they now have a guide menu that lets users browes through there friends list, messages, and so on by just clicking that center button on the controller (dont no what it is called) without having to exit the game they are currently playing. <does that sound familiar?? They have many other little tweaks that seem so so familiar that were all recently added in the new sony firmware update.
The avatars are horrid and the interface looks godawful. It’s only purpose is to shove paid content in our faces. Did you see the walkthrough? It is just plain stupid
I would rather have Pokemons than those big headed dolls Microsoft is shoving on us..
i was actually pretty excited seeing the new dashboard and avatar system along with millions more who were very surprised and pleased, its time for a change and the avatar system will be very pleasing if they keep at it. For instance,if you notice in certain games, there are some achievements in certain games that will unlock a certain amount of points and a gamer picture, i think it would be very fun and entertaining if they have unlockable clothing or even characters. Say i were to beat gears of war 2 on insane, then i would get the achievement and also maybe a gears of war t-shirt for my avatar. To make it even more exciting say i got the seriously achievement and then i unlocked a new marcus avatar or even a locus avatar. Anyways im just saying the avatar system has a lot of potential and microsoft can do a lot with it.
A proper avatar system would rock but the one they are planning doesn’t. I am fairly certain that you are stuck with the basic Wii rejects and will only be allowed new beanies and bow ties. And they way they are completely replacing your friends list looks to be a nightmare for anyone with more than 8 friends.
I dont think the friends list is screwed, looks like people will only be able to see the people that are online which is usually about 20 people if the user has a full friends list. Then the people that are offline will proble be listed elsewhere. Looks neat and i think microsoft needs to adapt to a new change of stlye. Remeber you all are forgeting the other benefits of the fall update.
Like the NETFLIX partnership, party chats, sharing movies,sharing pictures, MMO gameshows (we can actually win prizes), rumors of actually riping games to the console, and a bunch of other neat tweaks.
